Hacienda de Tranquilidad

Early this morning we packed a picnic went out to our new ranch about 75 miles North of Houston.  John wanted to test the fish in all the various lakes.  One lake has bass, another has catfish, and Sinclair is convinced Shamu lives in another lake and Nemo in another.  There was not a champion sighting of any of the aforementioned, but we had a ball!

little perch were feeding under the docks - Sinclair kept telling her Dad "put pole here, Daddy, so fish can see us"
Clifford was a real sport - when he was not by Sinclair's side she was holding him.  She is perfecting her hold... Unfortunately, it is the "choke hold"

Kristi, I normally enjoy most of this blog. But I need to say something here - there is nothing cute or funny or charming about a "choke hold" on a puppy. At this age, a puppy is vulnerable to tracheal collapse and should never, ever be held in this manner.

If there was a human baby around - would you allow Sinclair to hold that baby using the "choke hold" and then take a picture of it, and watch her perfect her method? No, because common sense informs us that it wouldn't be safe for a vulnerable creature.

Please apply that common sense to ALL vulnerable creatures, not just those of the human kind. Otherwise, it displays an arrogance so obtuse - that it would almost be insurmountable; and I'd think you'd be above that, from what I've read on your blog.

What a great lesson this could for Sinclair to learn about the vulnerability of other creatures and how we must, as humans, protect those who are more vulnerable than us.

I mean all of this with a kind heart.

Ann,

I sincerely appreciate your concern about Clifford and since that photo we have had INTENSE lessons on how to hold a puppy. Sinclair has since gotten an A+ on supporting him from his tummy.

In fact, when her older brother and sister in law brought "Fredrich von Sandwich" (aka "Sandwich") to visit his sibling Clifford yesterday she was crystal clear to everyone involved "hold him easy from his tummy"

Your constructive criticism was well-received. Thanks!!!

Best to you

KK
