Just how much Senate experience does Barack Obama have in terms of actual work days? Not much.
From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United State Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he logged 143 days of experience in the Senate. That's how many days the Senate was actually in session and working.
After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World, and fill the shoes of Abraham Lincoln, FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan.
143 days -- I keep leftovers in my refrigerator longer than that.
In contrast, John McCain's 26 years in Congress, 22 years of military service including 1,966 days in captivity as a POW in Hanoi now seem more impressive than ever. At 71, John McCain may just be hitting his stride.

You are completely correct: I wish I did not believe that this was more or less a done deal.
My assumption is that McCain can soar about things for awhile, but that eventually, gravity is going to assert itself and the troubles the rest of the Republican Party has will bring him down to earth. Particularly if there is no relief from gas prices. Hope not, though.
Questions are: (1) how many Hillary voters will pull the lever for McCain, and (2) of those who will do that, how many are in the right states electoral college-wise ?
Obama may just be our fate. Sure hope the Republicans can hold 40 or so Senate seats. If there is no possibility of a filibuster we will be in a sorry plight indeed.

Obama did have experience in the Ill. State Senate before being elected to the U.S. Senate. While this is not NATIONAL experience, it is there. If memory serves, President Bush had state experience as Gov. of Texas, and NO national experience. Oops, maybe that's a bad example. In McCain's defense, he does have lots of experience. My concern is that he's been part of a broken Washington that bogs down and doesn't like to work together. His reward for trying to work with Dem.s is to be despised by many Repub.s. Can he now be part of the solution?
Obama did also serve 8 years in the Illinois State Senate, before being elected to the U.S. Senate. While state experience is not the same as national experience, it is on his record. President Bush only had 6 years as Gov. of Texas, a state job, and NO national experience. In McCain's defense, he does have experience, but he's spent a lot of time in a bogged down Washington. He would reach across the aisle, but for this his reward was to be despised by many Repub.s Can McCain be part of the solution?
There is something overwhelmingly charasmatic about Obama. I think he has a fresh outlook. Just as long as it is not Mrs. Clinton
It's always fun to read a post bashing Obama with comments on the experience card. I would think after it failed so miserably for Hillary the GOP fans would pick something with more heat attached. John's experience has shown itself over the years and ever so clearly in the last 8 were he lines himself up for one bad vote after another. I wouldn't say he's the next Bush, since there are enough examples to argue against this. Where he does fall short is on the war where he will continue to have us fight a war that we can't win (there is no victory) and one that will continue to bankrupt the country. I would love for you to ask the 4k_ men/women that have died about John McCains experience and what they think of his judgment. And, sadly McCains greatest flaw is on his own admitted weakness, which is the economy. McCain couldn't apply for a government job after 65 and you feel he should apply for the highest government position available at 71? Or maybe you don't think these thoughts at all and just wanted to inspire some comments. :)

After eight disastrous years with George Bush, I'd rather have a president who says the world is round and it's time to navigate it and have him turn out to be wrong, then have another Bush-a-like who continues to assert that the world is flat and we should stay home. More Bush is not what we need.
Each candidate will be picked apart.
If you're a woman, I'm not quite sure that McCain is the type of man that I could admire. He called his wife a C*NT and a Trollop. He's also got one of the WORST records on women's rights.
That's mainly what I don't like about him. But we're going to vote for who we want to regardless.
