Nothing brings to mind the Old West like a modern-day trail ride. Pioneers created trails as they moved west in search of a dream and cowboys created trails to take cattle to major market centers. While these routes are no longer a necessity in daily life, this morning the Houston Live Stock Show and Rodeo officially starts when the 6000 trail riders come from 13 various rides to all gather to join in the parade in downtown Houston. The riders come right behind our house along Buffalo Bayou to downtown.

This cowboy from the Los Vaqueros, the first Hispanic trail riding group to be chartered with the Houston rodeo. Los Vaqueros also is the longest trail ride in Texas, covering 386 miles over three weeks from the Mexican border town of Reynosa to Houston.
