Just when I thought I was so jacked up in the stress department and I am wound tight something like one of God's miracles happens and I immediately put life into perspective.
I flew with John to the East Coast for two days for a short business trip and I had an appointment in New York at the same time. We landed yesterday without a second to spare and ran straight over to the rodeo to host some business associates for the Toby Keith concert. Everyone was having a fantastic time and my precious husband and I could barely stay awake. We got home, collapsed into bed and at 3:30 AM I feel this little tug on the covers and I hear "Mommy, home" I made Sinclair a special little nook and figured she and "Minnie" would fall right back to sleep. Naturally, that would be in a perfect world, since she repeatedly said "Play, play" and was getting more excited by the second. I walked like a zombie to the kitchen and fixed some milk and I stopped when I thought I heard a faint chirping noise. I looked on the floor to see if Oscar had brought in any mice that were trying to find their way to safety and no suck luck. I blew it off as a figment of my imagination until I heard it again. Then it dawned on me our chicks were hatching!!! I could not believe it!
These poor eggs have been through hell and back. The temp was too hot (someone bumped the incubator and it briefly shot to 110 degrees) and then it was too cold. They have been handled by 19 month old little sticky hands on too many occasions to count. I figured it was going to be a "warm up" for future egg hatching but that it would never work on this go around. Boy, was I wrong. The chick are pecking to get out of their shell and chirping away. Sinclair is so excited. I am not sure she will ever look at scrambled eggs the same way ever again. She is calling them "Elmo" and "Dora" --- pretty original for a one and a half year old!
Spring has arrived!
As of last posting we have had another chick hatch that Sinclair has named "Boom-Boom" (which you MUST pronounce with inflection) and we believe a fourth chick is hatching within hours!
