In the last two weeks Dr S switched me to Vancomyacin. I take this intravenously as well, about 2 and a half hour twice a day. It is taking longer than it should because I am enduring blood clots. I flush each line with Heprin (blood thinner) but I am still clotting.
Switching to this drug is suppose to help me with the blisters and scratching -- alas, it leaves me very nauseous. It seems like if you trade one you get something else.
We looked up the side effects of the new drug and it states "increased frequency of urine; chills, coughing; difficulty breathing; drowsiness; fever; increased thirst; loss of appetite; nausea and vomiting; sore throat; weakness; mood swings and depression. Abdominal tenderness; abnormal bleeding and bruising; large blisters on arms, legs, hands, feet and upper body; loss of hearing; ringing in ears; severe stomach cramps; watery and severe diarrhea, which is usually bloody.
Lovely.....just lovely.
I will be on antibiotics at least another year or so -- hopefully, Dr S will find it in his heart to switch me to orals.

I can't believe what your poor body has been through. Sending you lots of well wishes, positive vibes and LOVE. Happy 2nd bday to you... do you remember 2 years ago today? XOXOXO
Oh, Kristi - My heart sank when you said you'd be on antibiotics for at least another year or so. I am on IV antibiotics about every three months - and I can't imagine doing them all the time.
My thoughts are with you. Keep strong!
Love,
Carla
Oh Kristi, this makes me so sad for you. I know that we don't really each other, but I so wish there was something I could do to help with all you are dealing with. It would be so nice to be able to take oral medication if it will work just as well. I will continue to pray for you!
reading this breaks my heart for you
I am so sorry
you dont deserve this
Those treatments sound unbearable. I too hope your doctor decides to change over to oral meds ASAP.
So sorry you have to go through all this misery.
Hope you feel better very soon.
Hi,
I am new to your blog, but just wanted to express my condolences regarding your battle with MRSA... my father had a horrible staph infection 2 years ago and his treatment was very similar to what you are going through.. minus the PICC line, that sounds, to say the least, challenging.
Best of luck to you... I wish I had read your blog earlier as I live in Laguna Beach and would have loved to have met up with you at the Montage for a sunset cocktail.
Take care.
Just know that you have so many people out there praying for you!
God bless.
I hope that you don't have to endure those side effects you listed. Many people are praying for your speedy and full recovery. Your positive outlook and the love of your family and friends will get you through this.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Keep your head up! Your little girl will be there ready for your when you're 100%!
