King Ranch.....a magical place steeped in Texas tradition and beauty

This weekend has been one for the record books. John and I along with Cornelius and Celia went to the King Ranch to the Celebrity Quail Shoot. To say we had a blast is a compete understatement. Our hosts, "Tio" & Janell Kleberg have had this legendary event for fifteen years on the famous King Ranch -- which was founded by Tio's grandfather, Captain Richard Kleberg.

Larry "JR Ewing" Hagman shot his limit within the first two hours -- afterwards, he spent the rest of the time schmoozing with the ladies!

These are a few various buildings on the 840,000 acre property that were built in the 1850's. They just don't build them like they used too!

The "big house" that Captain Kleberg built has 22 bedrooms!!! The original house burned in 1919 and this was rebuilt to an even bigger scale, shaped like a fort to protect them from bandits such a Pancho Villia. Can you fathom a home that extravagant at the turn of the century?? The "Captain" would have SOOOOOOOO dug me!!!

Tio and Janell were fabulous hosts...

No one actually lives in the "big house" any longer, but it is immaculately maintained for guests and friends of the family. Sweet "Cardo" Kleberg shared some of their prized possessions including the Triple Crown trophy from 1946 of their famed thoroughbred "Assault"

We went over and spent one night with our fabulous friends Dru and Scott - they just bought a place aptly named "Las Palmas" about 5 minutes from King Ranch.

Scott and Dru have a little bit of Africa in South Texas -- they have a majestic herd of zebra
