8:54 p.m. I decided to start with the live blog covering Sarah Palin’s speech at the RNC Convention. I am terribly excited about hearing her speak. Linda Lingle is addressing the convention right now, and she made a point about how Palin is a Washington outsider who wants to bring real reform to Washington politics.
8:59 p.m. I can’t stop thinking about how Palin’s candidacy is energizing women. Right now, both my precious husband and I are sitting here discussing how awesome it would be to have the first female Vice President, as it paves the way for a future female President. I am texting madly with my RNC pals about the excitement building.
9:03 p.m. My favorite New York Yankees fan, Rudy Giuliani is addressing the crowd. He is really enthusiastic and energizing. “John McCain is a true American hero.”–Rudy Giuliani.
9:07 p.m. Rudy is talking about Barack Obama’s experience, or lack thereof. Rudy also attacks Barack’s voting record…hahaha! “For President of the United States, you can’t vote Present.”–Rudy.
9:10 p.m. “Tough times require strong leadership…this is no time for on-the-job training.”–Rudy Giuliani about Barack Obama’s inexperience John McCain is tested and ready to be President of the United States. We will be safer, no doubt with McCain’s leadership.
9:14 p.m. Rudy is talking about McCain adhering to free trade, energy independence (offshore drilling mentioned)…drill baby drill! We talk about change…they [dems] talk about hope. The only hope you will need with Barack is the hope that he will not send big brother snooping constantly over your shoulder.
9:16 p.m. Rudy mentioned the state of denial that the Democrats did not address during their convention by not addressing 9-11. McCain aligned himself with the troop surge, and we have seen success (how does the capture of Saddam sound…Iraqis having the right to vote).
9:19 p.m. “If I were Joe Biden, I would want to get the VP thing in writing.”–RG John McCain said we were all Georgians…Barack created a moral equivalency looking at both sides. Who has the most inexperience? BHO. “Advice for Barack…call John McCain”
9:23 p.m. “Gov. Palin represents a new generation…and already has more executive experience than the Democratic ticket combined.” Palin has encouraged energy exploration and is one of the best Governors in the country. Two mavericks on the ticket…way to shake up Washington…yeehaw!
9:28 p.m. Our next Vice President is on the stage. What a rising star…standing ovations abound! There are tears in my eyes. “Chairman, delegates, ladies and gentleman, I accept your nomination as Vice President of the United States.”
9:33 p.m. “There is a time for politics, a time for leadership, a time to campaign and a time to put our country first.” “Our candidate for President is a true profile of courage…the troops in Iraq brought victory in sight.” Palin mentions her son’s service to country…excellent! She is proud of her son and nephew and all of America’s troops…we have a winner!
9:37 p.m. “Our family has the same joys and the same challenges.” Mentions special needs children. “You will have a friend and advocate in the White House.” Sarah’s message to families of special needs children.
9:40 p.m. “Every woman has a place at the table.” Mentions parents and thanks them. “I had the privilege of living in a small town, being a hockey mom, and signing up for the PTA. The difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull is lipstick. I signed up for the PTA, because I wanted to make my children’s public education better.”
9:43 p.m. “I guess being a town mayor is a lot like a community organizer.” Good line, Sarah.
9:46 p.m. “Americans expect us to go to Washington to make a difference, not socialize with lobbyists.” “I pledge to all Americans to carry myself in this spirit as Vice President of the United States.” “When I stood up to the special interests, the lobbyists, oil companies and the good old boys…we shook things up and put government back on the side of people.”
9:49 p.m. “Use of veto is in the public interest.” Palin used this in Alaska to stop government spending. “Thanks, but no thanks, on that bridge to nowhere. If our state wanted to build a bridge, we were going to build ourselves.” “Americans, we need to produce much of our own oil and gas. Take it from a girl from Alaska, we got lots of both” Drill here, drill now…ease government regulations! “There is no excuse to do nothing at all.”
9:53 p.m. “On the first day of the McCain/Palin administration, we are going to build new energy plants.” “American energy brought to you by American ingenuity, brought to you by American workers.” “Barack authored two memoirs, but not a single bill.” Right on, sister!
9:56 p.m. “Barack wants to meet terrorists without preconditions.” Sarah is definitely showing her strength…Go Sarahcuda!! “Government is too big and he [Barack] wants to grow it. Taxes are too high and he [Barack] wants to raise it.” Highlights her sister and brother-in-law starting a small business and talked about how higher taxes oppress business growth. “McCain isn’t looking for a fight, but isn’t afraid of one either.” Mentions “Dirty Harry” Reid and the do-nothing Congress…we have chosen the right man. “Dirty Harry” can’t stand up to John McCain. The American Presidency is not supposed to be one of personal discovery.”
10:04 p.m. “It is a long way from a 6′ X 4′ cell in Hanoi to the White House.” His service to our country is admirable. “John McCain has inspired with his deeds. If character is the theme of this election, then I hope you will join our cause.”
10:10 p.m. Our next President, John McCain walked on stage to be with the family. It is a beautiful night to be an American and a Republican. Country first!
It has been a truly historic night. Sarah Palin makes me even prouder to be a Republican woman, and she now a heroine in my book. I pray that I can be like her one day, what a great role model! She handles pressure with grace and strength…may God bless you and your family, Sarah Palin.

Do you watch those "ladies" of "The View"? WHY do people like this have a platform from which to spew their STUPIDITY??? They said the MOST REDICULOUS crap about Palin's speech...of course, Elizabeth wasn't there to set them straight (not that they would actually let her speak since they so RUDELY interrupt her on a regular basis)...Anybama...they actually compared McCain's stint in the military, and specifically his "vacation" at "the Hilton Vietnam" to Biden's losing his family. Whoopie, in particular, saying that Palin wasn't "gracious" since everyone, even Biden, has been through "hardships". WTF? "HARDSHIPS"???? Yeah, loosing your family is very, very tragic, but NOT THE SAME as volunteering to defend one's country and going through the "hardships" (TO PUT IT MILDLY) of POW "camp"!

The women that I know think it's an insult that Palin is offered up to us as an attempt to draw women voters as if she would even remotely attract the Independent female voters who would have voted for Clinton.
Choosing Palin as V.P. - someone who comes off as more conservative than McCain - is just going to influence more Independents and middle-of-the-road voters to latch on to Obama and the Democrats.
I sincerely hope that they don't think American women are so unable to think for themselves that they would be easily swayed by a young, pretty face and decide to vote Republican because they assume that a woman - any woman - is the best choice to represent them.
If watching the Convention convinced you in some way that the GOP is a shoo-in for the election then you've been completely oblivious to the dissatisfaction and disgust directed toward the Conservatives by the majority of the population since the last election.

We might of thought it before, but last night proved us all wrong. The Republicans have done what many would have thought impossible a few months ago. The relentless efforts of the liberal media to bring the Republicans down were successful, and the administration's approval rating dropped. It was widely felt that there was no way that the Republicans could win in November. Then the impossible happened. The Democrats rejected the one person that could have won over any ticket the Republicans put together. Instead, the Democrats selected a highly unqualified man merely because he was half black and his skin color was dark. Then the Republicans put together a ticket that is unbeatable. McCain at the top of the ticket has years of experience and is extremely qualified. Palin, in the V.P. slot, provides the ticket with youth, freshness, and experience. Last night, America fell in love with her. The Democrats have lost their best chance of retaking the White House. McCain/Palin are simply unbeatable.
Most Dems never get out of the fetal position, unless they are aborted.
She has a wit and delivery I haven't seen since Margaret Thatcher or Reagan, and I'm not exaggerating. I was very worried about her being the pick, and still am because there's a lot of derenged left-wingers that are permitted to vote, and will vote for Obama.
Many debaters and trial lawyers will tell you that it is extremely difficult for a man to debate or compete against a woman, in that judges and jurors generally dont look favorably on a man delivering crushing blows to a woman...unless that woman throws the first punch.
Sarah Palin, for better or for worse, threw a series of bare nuckle jabs last night...and I think we can expect the democrats to respond accordingly.
My only concern is how will react when she is on the receiving end of those blows; Can she deliver without speech writers and teleprompters or is she merely the pageant bulldog with no bite?
We shall soon see. Should be a great debate!

Well, maybe he will grow up, be responsible, and learn to "wrap that rascal" the next time, as he should have been smart enough to do the first time. As for the plans for marriage, my bet is that this is a facade that will not go past election day. Even if he and Bristol(?) do love each other, it's silly for them to get married so young just because he got her pregnant. They should go to college, and if they still feel the same way, then get married.
I just read Dooce and was upset about what all she said, so reading this helped me a lot, except that she has over 1000 comments and you only 13. I hope that all America can see the difference between someone who has never governed to a man who has decades of experience.

I guess there are 2 sides to every story. To me, Sarah Palin seemed caustic and very negative in her speech. John McCain is a hero, no doubt about it, but I can't call Sarah Palin even an upstanding politician after this introduction to her. By comparison, Sen. McCain makes her look immature, brash, and sarcastic. I still wish Pawlenty had gotten the call instead.

US WEEKLY is feeling the heat for its blatant slam job of Sarah Palin on this week's cover - with angry readers canceling their subscriptions in droves.
Sources told MSNBC.com from 5,000 to 10,000 subscribers canceled after the mag published its "Babies, Lies & Scandal" story about John McCain's running mate.
A rep for the mag denied the numbers were that high, but admitted to Page Six 1,000 subscribers had axed their subscriptions. The flack tried to downplay the backlash, insisting: "There has been no impact on our overall total . . . We have added about 1,000 new subscribers" at the same time.
Some insiders wonder whether raking the conservative Alaska governor over the coals in a six-page spread with headlines like "Anatomy of a Scandal" was influenced by Jann Wenner, a rabid supporter of Barack Obama and whose Wenner Media publishes the celeb sheet - and who endorsed Obama in Rolling Stone. Asked if Us editor-in-chief Janice Min and Wenner had any pre-publication chats, the mag's rep refused to answer. Min wouldn't speak to us.
One mag editor told MSNBC: "When Us went to print Monday night, it looked like the ticket was falling apart. They went to print thinking Palin was dead in the water, and their mistake was thinking everyone who reads Us is a Democrat, when they're not."
The Palin blast comes after Us Weekly's glowing cover, "Michelle Obama: Why Barack Loves Her," which gushed, "She shops at Target, loved 'Sex and the City' and never misses the girls' recitals. It's the untold romance between a down-to-earth mom and the man who calls her 'my rock.' "
The Palin story by Mara Reinstein trumpeted Palin's hubby Todd's DUI bust, but neglected to mention it was 22 years ago. And the "lies" in the headline referred to false rumors that the real mom of Palin's baby, Trig, was actually her daughter Bristol.
How is someone who wants creationism taught in the schools going to help education? We'd be the laughingstock of the world.

Don't dilute yourself into thinking that Sarah Palin is doing ANYthing to advance the cause of women. This woman is absolutely the antithesis of feminism. The only thing she has in common with women who actually CARE about seeing equality and egalitarianism achieved is that she owns a vagina.
I'm sure Palin is an okay person. But they talk about NO issues and they attack people who have worked for change from the bottom up their whole lives (i.e. community organizers). I don't understand how this reflects American values. It terrifies me that she could be president, especially since she is pro-book bans and thinks God is guiding our wars. She actually completely creeps me out, and it scares me even more that people who have the ability to think would support this ticket.
For all of you who have children... Palin cut Alaska's education budget by 60%. SIXTY PERCENT. She's also supported banning books in libraries, as well as abstinence education-- which, as we can see from her daughter, worked brilliantly.
Vote for McCain to prove you're insane.
Mother of all that's holy! The world is hoping that Americans vote Obama into office. Failure to do this, I fear, will mean your nation will continue down the path towards becoming a kind of quaint backwards country.
