Shelter from the Storm

I have learned people will forget what you have said, people will forget what you have done, but people never forget how you made them feel.

I have been burning inside ever since I heard some political pundit describe McCain "using Gustav as his political theater platform"

So while John McCain has essentially put the most important week of his campaign on hold for this natural disaster, Obama is still bashing him till the very end. This is the paramount difference between McCain and Obama

Earlier today, Team Barack was still attacking McCain. Barack Obama had criticized McCain and Palin on the campaign trail over pay equity. The Dems attack while there's a hurricane going on and John McCain suspends his convention basically. What bigger contrast can you have about putting your country first?

While dismayed about the impact Gustav is sure to have on their convention, Republicans see the storm as another opportunity to paint McCain as somebody who, even to the detriment of his own campaign, is willing to sacrifice his political interests for a larger good. As a former resident of New Orleans, this impresses me beyond words. I have not heard a peep from Barack or his side kick "hair plugs" about going down to the South to save the victims of the storm.  McCain, secured private aircraft for all of his Alabama, Louisiana and Texas delegates to be able to go back home from the convention and be with their families.

McCain knows what it is like to be under pressure, he is putting politics behind his country. I am confidant this is not the easiest way to run a campaign you have hundreds of millions of dollars riding on. But this is business as usual in McCainworld. This is OBVIOUSLY not how the Democratic rival operates.

I could have sworn Barack Obama said the other night in his speech that "Country should be first" Hmmmmmmm..... someone send me the memo when that happens.

Mitt Romney went after Obama, if not by name.

"And you want to make sure our next president is someone who should be talking about protecting our nation and does not just say let's sit down with the world’s worst actors Ahmadinejad and the Castro brothers," Romney said. "But instead says, let’s sit down with the best democracies in the world and form a league of democracies. Let’s protect America. You want to make sure the people of America understand that when it comes to strengthening our economy we’re not in favor of raising taxes and cutting off trade and drawing a line and saying no nuclear, no coal and no more drilling. Instead, you want a president who will say, I’ll get this economy going with low taxes, and more trade for our goods, and yes, we will drill for more oil."

So far, Obama has taken a more hands-off approach to Gustav, saying he doesn't plan to the travel to the Gulf but would tap his massive network of donors and volunteers to pitch in however needed. I do not know about you but I want a COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF not a Comforter-in-chief. Obama's own leadership credentials are less known to voters, so this could be an opportunity for him to show steadiness under fire as well.

Not that his peeps read my blog, but of the 30,000 that do (and a few are Barack/Biden supporters) I would send word back to their camp and the village idiots that advise them.

Americans want to see their next President on the ground. Let's see him stop bashing McCain long enough to fill sandbags and show concern for his country.

I love this post!! Everything you wrote is SO true.....why can't everyone see this as clearly as you do. Very well said! Team McCain all the way to the White House!! ; )

I'd suggest that McCain fill sandbags too, but with Palin as his backup I'm hoping he enjoys a long, healthy life. I don't agree either with Obama not going south, he says it's because they don't need the distraction of a politician with entourage, but in this day and age it's the flash that impresses, not the substance.

We are for mcCain and Sarah. As for her daughter being pregnant-- it happens in the BEST of families. We are all for them amd the way they have stood by her. Character!!! and love.

To the comment above mine...I completely agree about the Palin pregnancy. Unfortunately, Sarah Palin herself has contributed to making this an issue. She is one of to many Christian conservatives who somehow think it is their position to tell the rest of America how to live with outlandish social/moral agendas.

I'm not even an American and I agree with you!

What was that commitee Sarah was a part of that was trying to succeed from the United States? Sounds pretty 'Old School' to me and not like someone who puts their country first.

The pregnancy is a disaster. Oh, and it does not happen in the best of families. TRASH, TRASH, TRASH...they'll never make it to the white house. This is a major screw up for the GOP, ans it will be its un-doing. Obama's camp is loving this one.

Sarah's daughter pregnancy should not be up for discussion, it is a family matter and a family matter only..and that is where it should stay..the press should be considerate and not make this a headline blast. I am not a fan of BHO, but he was correct in stating hands off children and family in this campaign. To anonymous remember this: as you judge so you will be judge

hmj...you're living in a dream state. The reality of this situation is that as a PUBLIC figure, one's life becomes PUBLIC. And no one is more public right now than the P and VP candidantes AND THEIR FAMILIES, which they WELL KNOW. And I am aware that we are all judged, just as we are FREE to judge others. This is what separates us from the beasts. And our GOOD judgement is an ASSET. By the way, I am a McCain supporter, but that does not mean I am BLIND to the realities of his campaign.

or should I say jmh?...

Cllinton's always said "chelsea is not available for the press;

same should be applied to Palin

at least Pallin has experience running something

Obama-Biden dont have a bit of experience

Also, I think Obama is a better speaker (if you like the whole MLK genre) but I dont think they will be able to touch Sarah off the block

Sooo...Palin's daughter is adult enough to have pre-marital UNPROTECTED sex, adult enough to HAVE A BABY, adult enough to GET MARRIED, but, she's just a child and should be left alone?...right...can't have it both ways, people. She'll go down in history as the little girl that lost it for the GOP in 2008. Palin should step down, and retire. And slap the S*!$ out of her daughter...if she hasn't already done so.

Anonymous said...

let me guess you voted for NoBAMA and Hairplugs?

this little girl will have NO EFFECT on the GOP

its her Mother running not her

I agree Palin will have to sell herself

I am not sold on her just yet, but I am anxious to see how she conducts herself

Children are off limits.

I am a McCain supporter. My worry is about being a 17 y.o. girl, pregnant and being bashed about on every television network and radio station, not to mention blogs. I worry about the damage it will do to her and, if her mother and McCain do lose the election (God forbid), will she feel forever responsible? That just seems like too much pressure for a young girl to bear. I wonder if maybe her mother should consider not running at this time and help her daughter through this situation, privately. If Sarah Palin does continue on the ticket, she and McCain certainly have my vote and I wish the daughter and the family only the best.

Well, here it is in a nut shell...my mother just said she wasn't sure who she was going to vote for until this latest fiasco. Now she says she's voting for Obama, since it's clear that Palin doesn't even have a handle on her own family. And yes, she should CERTAINLY withdraw from the race to "concentrate on her family" and "spare her family the glare of the media spot-light"...however, it seems she is too power hungry to do that. Very selfish. I guess she never got over losing Miss Alaska.

I was once a 17 year old unmarried pregnant girl. My parents did not see fit to love me unconditionally and sent me to Edna Gladney home in Ft Worth to have a baby, never get to see him, and give him up for adoption. Their response when they found out I was pregnant was "what will the neighbors say?" It wasn't how they could help me through this. I say Palin should run for office and allow her daughter to deal with this in private, just don't send her away in shame.

P.S. My son, the one I gave up for adoption is now an M.D. serving in the US Navy. We were reunited when he turned 22.

Actually, Obama also put a hold on campaigning during the Gustav storm:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26497308/

He purposefully decided not to go to the area b/c he didn't want to cause a distraction and appear to take the storm for granted and use it for his own political gain. He urged his supporters to make donations to the Red Cross...something that McCain has not done.

Just like the other side, please include all the facts when having political commentary.

I believe that Palin's family should be off limits, but her actions as Mayor and Governor should not. She has earmarked over $6.9 million for her little tiny town of Wasilla (a tactic to take federal money that McCain often criticizes!!) She also supported the Bridge to Nowhere at first!

Also, the reason that you have so many page views on your site is because you spent several months advertising your site on Dooce.com. Please don't act so surprised!! You sought out your readers yourself!

In the interest of "including all the facts when having political commentary"...McCain set up a phone bank on the floor of the convention to raise funds for the storm ravaged areas!...Idiot. Get YOUR facts straight...or, just take a SECOND to watch the news!
