Oh to be PICC'd!!!

I met with my new infectious disease guru today, Dr Tobias Samo. He has opted to put in a PICC line and I will be administered IV antibiotics 2 X a day for the next several months. What a party this will be!

If they don't attack this aggressively they do not feel confident they still do not have to go in and remove all the work that was just done. He explained that since blood flow is so jeopardized to the area its so hard for the medicine to it.

Since bone essentially doesn't have blood flow - my rib graft should take a little longer to adhere to me.

I'm a little down but know this is for the best and am thrilled I don't have to go back into surgery. This little accessory should make for a long, hot summer!

OMG this is really serious -- I have you on all our prayer lists

K, you are strong -- hang in there

You can kick this -- dont let this thing in your arm be a reminder of anything else but to get better

Sinclair needs her Mommy too much!

I will pray for you and your family as you fight this. I am thankful that you do not require a hospital stay.

I've had many PICCs, so if you want any insider tips on thing like showering, I'll let you know what works best.

What meds do they have you on? Are you doing them yourself or does a nurse have to come twice a day?

I wish you the best - and hopefully the antibiotics will kick the infection (they usually do a pretty good job with my lungs!)!

This is the first time I have ever "posted on a blog" (did I just type that?)but your upcoming adventure with a PICC line made me do it. I had one years ago ("picc-ted it up in surgery)before medicine had discovered what this really was. (My father and late brother are both physicians, so that was a help.) I had the line in for 6 months, infused myself 2x day. The staph was back within 2 days, so oh boy!one in the other arm for 8 months. I feel your pain, girl, and like Dancing Roses have some suggestions if needed. Actually and unfortunately the only good thing about the PICC is when they take the motherfucker out. Hang in there! I forced the md to give me my last one which I keep in a sealed jar so I can snarl at it occassionally and taunt it with, "Hey, I kicked your ass, bitch!" You can too.
Prayers on ya.

My daughter had a port catheter placed last month, so I know some of what you're going through.

Best wishes for a smooth recovery.
