THE COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN.....

We are just a little more than two weeks away from the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston's 60th Anniversary Gala, Diamonds in the Rough. Naturally, 60 years marks the "diamond anniversary" and this is such a significant milestone, my co-chair (and "BFF"), Ryland Holmes Peveto and I planning on making this the most lavish, and most fun, event in the Museum’s history. The clock is ticking and April 11 is the big day....The Corinthian is the place. Ryland and I have been hard at work to make it a great event. The silent auction, which in the past has been an art-only auction, will be augmented with great items like jewelry, cool art trips and luxury fashion items. The evening will honor artist John Chamberlain, who is considered the greatest living sculptor of our generation. Chamberlain is best known for creating sculptures from wrecked automobile parts that bring the Abstract Expressionist style of painting into three dimensions.

In addition to Chamberlain, Ryland and I will pay tribute to all of the past presidents
and chairmen to have served on behalf of the nation’s third-oldest and largest contemporary art organization.

Bergner & Johnson is doing the decor, so it will be stunning. Jackson and Company will serve flawless service and the Spazmatics will entertain. PaperCity magazine is the generous media sponsor along with DeBeers. Our friends have signed on to serve on the Host Committee. Rush out and buy your $50,000 table today ....they are almost all gone!!! If you are saving your bucks for a Chamberlain, tickets start at $1000!

Giddyup! This event will sell out!

"Project Playhouse"

Our friend Al started our doll house project this weekend. This is the first few hours into the "Project Play House" ....all the support beams were aligned first, then the concrete pavers will make their way on top of the stack. Sinclair followed her Daddy's footsteps and walked off the whole site! She christened each board for suspension with a "BOOM"

24 Hour later...Al has the walls posted. The "Playhouse King" has this down to an art!
at 2:30 today....

at 5 o'clock today....

Wiping the Crazy off My Face

My friend Sherri sent this along this morning - it was too funny NOT to share!

March 24, 2008

My Darling Kristi,

I've always wanted to refer to someone as "My Darling", but with my stupid self respect and everything, I never have. Until now.

As you may or may not have noticed, I have been absolutely absent from the world of words. Not that I haven't been using words in my day to day life... cause I totally have. But rather, I have been absent from using written words to delight and entertain The Masses. (My pet name for you is "The Masses", by the way.)

I've been unable to write because for several months, my real life job has served as a super effective funny-sucking Hoover.

Stupid real life. Stupid need to make money so my family can eat food and have electricity.

Some months ago, I was asked to join a business venture that would put me in a management position. (The bend over and take it position for those of you unfamiliar with retail management.) I was to manage sixteen women in an exciting new facility that houses fitness, tanning, massage, dance, and a Bistro.

"That sounds like a super-dilly fun way to earn money and influence people," I said to myself and the owner. Of course I was constructing a model airplane in my air-tight bedroom closet at the time and so completely under the influence of dangerous, but highly enjoyable, noxious fumes.

Mmmm. Noxious fumes.

From that moment on, I've been living in management Hell with sixteen women perpetually poking me with red hot pitchforks while they take turns calling in sick.

"Um, Sher? Um, yeah...I can't come to work today. I've been throwing up all night."

I personally love the "throwing up all night" excuse as it's vague enough to allow any length of recovery time, not serious enough to warrant a doctor's note and plenty gross enough for the OCD Chick not to want them at work.

Sometimes they get a little more creative.

"Sher? Hey Sher. Listen, I can't come to work today because my son stabbed me in the eye with a fork."

Notice the lack of the word "accidentally" as well as the choice of "stabbed" rather than "poked". I knew immediately what was going on here and therefore felt I needed to give her some advice."

I once had a cat that was possessed by the Devil," I explained. "He scratched me and then started hopping around on his tip-toes. I just threw him out in the back yard and figured either Satan would come get him or a neighbor would take him in and raise him. Do you have any neighbors?"

Ignoring my suggestions, she continued weaving her intriguing excuse. "Well, my eyeball is bleeding so I'd better stay home for at least a couple days."

We have a demon possessed child as well as a bleeding eyeball now. I encourage you, The Masses, to utilize this call-off excuse in your own work place as it cannot be countered by The Boss. It comes with a price though, as you'll have to commit to long term wear of an eye patch once you return to your job.

One of the unspoken joys of management is the pleasure of having to fill in for your employees when they are vomiting or have been attacked by Satan's spawn. Some days that means I work from 6AM until 9PM. Some days that means I think I am going to have a day off to live as a human when in reality I am one phone call away from going right back to work.

So there's my excuse for not writing. I've been trapped in reality and have found it entirely un-funny.

But I'm feeling much better now.

Look for me again soon and feel free to hold a telethon in my honor so that I never have to do another honest day's work for the rest of my natural life.

Until next time...I'll be in the closet putting the wings on.

Still wiping the crazy off my face,

Love, Sher

HOPPY EASTER FROM THE R-BAR-C RANCH.....

We spent all day Saturday at R Bar C - we hunted eggs and swam until the kiddos collapsed with smiles on their faces. The Gorman's ranch is a 1000 acres of utopia - our kids (big and small) all love it there so much. As Daniel describes it "imagine every cool thing you ever dreamed about having when you were little and then having it as an adult" --- John's ranch has ATV's, wild game, exotics, fishing, trampolines, skeet shooting, life-size chess games, putt-putt, heliport, outdoor theatres, horseback riding, petting zoo, swimming, three miles of private river frontage, 11 waterfalls, three dams and a 6,000 bottle wine cellar....for the really big kids.

Daniel and John spent the majority of the weekend watching all the March Madness -- this included time with new friends Monica, Blake, Steve and darling Ava!

John Gorman negotiating the children on the egg hunt -- laying out all the ground rules!
Sinclair got so many eggs she finally just sat down and said "SOOOOO DONE"

This ranch is so very "Gormanesque" --

Sinclair showed Veronica and Maita all her new swimming moves....I do not think she has ever slept as sound as she did that night.
This was just the first hour captured.....too bad my battery ran out of juice!

Here comes the bride.....

Yesterday we started preparing for our big Easter wedding weekend. So much to take in for our 20 month old "muffin" Daniel and all of his girls gathered in our room to give Maita and Maria Jose Easter prezzies. Sinclair loved helping them do all the unwrapping...she was especially all about the bows. Maita got a Hanna Montana guitar with microphone and MJ got a portable video "flip" camera.

After all the girl time it was time to start practicing our flower girl routine. We went down and inspected the typical magic Uncle Kirksey was making happen-- the transformation was starting! Sinclair could not wait to show "HaLa" how hard she had been practicing for she and Lucky's special day.
Today we are off to our longtime friends John and Tamara's R-Bar-C ranch to celebrate Easter and hunt a few eggs. We will spend the day recapping one of the most beautiful evenings and stunning brides I have ever seen. Hailey was such a glowing vision. The love just radiated between she and Lucky....truly the evening was was fairy tales are created from.

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice!

This morning we went to see Sinclair's Fairy Godmother, Lisa Jane who snapped lots of magical Easter photos. Sinclair took pictures with baby ducks and some precious bunnies. I was so proud of how very gentle she was with the animals. I am even in bigger awe of how patient Lisa Jane and Tessa are with the kiddos -- and Melissa is with me! Jobe could get tips from Lisa on how to keep one's cool.

Sinclair's sweet friend Jack Allen showed up to have his picture taken and we managed to get quite a few of them together. I am especially fond of these church pew shots with her little pink bible her Godmother Auntie Paula and Uncle Sam gave her. I am confidant Ryland and I will showing these one day to them before some stupendous special occasion!
